I love Murim Manhwa’s because they’re a hit or miss sub-genre of Manhwas…Unlike Villainess, of typical Royal Revenge stories, if a Murim-based Manhwa starts out on a good note, it usually stays that way, so I was extremely excited to see this ENORMOUS mass update. I’ve read up to Chapter 112 as of this comment, and I have never been so frustratingly hooked.
The Main Character is a genius, but dumb, like INSANELY dumb…But at the same time he’s cautious, thinks ahead, and properly utilizes the information he discovers. He values his subordinates and comrades, and seems to be a very loyal and fair person. Thankfully he’s far from a pushover in the mental sense(can’t say physical since he gets beaten and killed by so many different motherfuckers but you get my point). He’s actually pretty raw in his extremely desperate moments, both lucky and unlucky at the same time, but the main reason why I’m so frustrated is the lack of idk…There’s something missing from this Manhwa, the fights are great, dialog’s great, character design is great, but I don’t know Seol Hwi, and he’s the guy I’ve seen die like five-hundred times atp. The side characters are more fleshed out than he is, and I find myself more upset when they die in one of his lives, than when he dies and resets. This system gives him so many bullshit limitations, takes away his advantages, and forces him to choose the better out of two evils sometimes with these dialog options. MC needs a peaceful, domestic life free from any worries.
For OP MC enjoyers such as myself who have no qualms about their MC’s getting a bullshit power up and absolutely dog-walking their enemies…This Manhwa is NOT for you. The first seventy chapters or so are filled with groveling, apologizing, and the MC being beat the fuck up, intimidated shitless, and disturbingly killed because he’s a weak, uninfluential stupid ass essentially raised to die for his sect’s entertainment. There are so many unlikable assholes in this Manhwa it’s nuts, but MC’s adaptability rivals Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga’s from JJK.
This ‘System’ or whatever is a double-edged sword, it annoys me as much as ‘Renee Macias’ from ‘The S-Class Hunter Doesn’t Want to be a Villainous Princess’-‘s system does, because it’s unreasonable, and seemingly wants MC to do the impossible, be heartless, and possibly fail his tasks. Plus, with “AI’s” obvious distrust and distaste for the system, he obviously knows its end-goal, and tries to tell MC to rely on his own skills more.(MC doesn’t really start listening to him until the System proves unreliable)
The main character’s name is “Seol Hwi”…Fourth rate weakest of the weakest, absolute expendable cannon fodder…He dies after being literally sent to his death by one of the pillars of the Demon Sect or whatever its called and that’s when all of this madness begins. Funnily enough, the ‘Mount Hua Sect’ is one of this story’s main antagonists.
The power system in this Manhwa is absolutely outrageous…I can hardly believe some of the stats MC has to fight against, but it sticks true to the whole video game concept. MC dies so many times I’ve lost track, but he’s at least smart enough to learn from his mistakes…Some of these situations he gets put in are absolutely fucking hopeless though, like there’s no surviving sometimes and that sucks. He goes through SO FUCKING MUCH. Death, torture, betrayal, the death of his subordinates you name it. There’s hardly any stable romance, MC is much too focused on just surviving for more than three months at a time.
The plot’s very intricate and interesting, I’d rate it currently 10/10(EARTH DEMON GON MA PLEASE HMU PLEEEASSEEEEE). Speaking of disciples…That ‘Mahu’ (White haired glasses snake guy) is thee MOST suspicious guy in this entire Manhwa. He’s obviously batshit insane, though not as much as red-haired bear looking guy, and the whole Mei ryong or whatever Gon Ma’s missing subordinate’s name is subplot makes me curious, there’s something fishy going on.
anyways the art’s a solid 9/10(not a full ten cuz proportions can sometimes be a bit off but otherwise it’s great). You have a lot of questions about the system, it seems to want to sabotage MC at every turn(forcing him to get rid of 2/3 of his cheats when he’s still relatively weak).
The main antagonist, the old man ‘Grand-Something-Something’ is the BIGGEST piece of shit I’ve ever come across in a Murim Manhwa…Like he needs to DIE NOW. MC’s underlings are cool and I hope Songhwa doesn’t die in any of Seol Hwi’s lives(He’s my son ilhsm) So yeah, solid 8.5/10 for me.
